The First Annual J.P. Small Foundation, Inc.
Scholarship and Hall of Fame Banquet. 

 

The J.P. Small Foundation, Inc., has its First Annual Scholarship and Hall of Fame Banquet.  It was held at the Multipurpose Center of the Philippians Community Church, 7540 New Kings Road on Saturday, April 8, 2006.  The J.P. Small Foundation, Inc. is a 501 c (3) non-profit corporation.  The foundation offers tutoring and mentoring for K-12 grades.  The foundation is also committed to providing the necessary learning skills to the parents of the students.  This will enable them to become and remain productive human being in the community in which they live.  Programs such as the GED, The One-on-One Reading Program for children, young adults and the elderly.

 The first Hall of Fame Inductees at the banquet were men who graduated from Stanton High School (now known as Stanton College Preparatory School) and played under Coach James P. Small.  Back Row:  From left to right Rev. Charles Scriven, first Black Chief in history of the Police Department, Mr. Al Denson, retired NFL Player with the Denver Broncos, and the Minnesota Vikings, Mr. Jerome Wheeler, retired as Principal A. Philip Randolph Academies of Technology of the Duval County School System, Mr. Carl Hughes, Retired Assistant Principal of Student Services at William M. Raines High School of the Duval County School System, Mr. Herbert Blackshear, retired NFL Player drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but signed with Cleveland Browns, The Keynote speaker Florida State Senator, District 1 Mr. Anthony C. “Tony” Hill, Sr.

Gilbert School) Mr. Billie Howard retired Assistant Principal of Student Services at Stanton College Preparatory High School.

The second picture – Senator Anthony “Tony” Hill, Sr., Mrs. Willye F. Dennis, retired State Representative of the State of Florida and President of the NAACP of Jacksonville, Florida, and the third picture – Mr. Jerome “Track” Elps, Founder of the “Martin Luther King Day Celebration” and The Old Timers Football Game.  These were three recipients of the Humanitarian Awards given at the banquet.

 The fourth picture is members of The J.P.
